Navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can be confusing and tricky. If you’re new to the NDIS, or need some help to learn how to implement your plan, a support coordinator can play a vital role in helping you understand and make the most of your NDIS plan.
Support coordinators help NDIS participants to effectively utilise their plans, and to connect with appropriate services and supports. Their goal is to empower you, ensuring you have the knowledge and resources to achieve your goals and live a fulfilling life.
A support coordinator works closely with you, getting to know your unique needs, goals, and aspirations. They help to put your funding into action, working toward those goals, both short and long term.
There are so many disability service providers out there, it can be hard to know where to start!
Support coordinators make it simple, by identifying suitable providers based on your needs and preferences. They can help arrange appointments, make referrals, and ensure that you have access to the supports that can help you work toward your goals, such as therapy, housing, employment services, and more. They can even help you to set up Service Agreements with your providers.
Your support coordinator can help you understand your rights, resolve conflicts, and communicate with service providers, government agencies and other stakeholders. If there comes a time when you need advocacy, they should not act as a formal independent advocate for you, but they can refer you to independent advocacy services. Find out more on the Disability Advocacy Fact Sheet.
One major goal of support coordination is to help you learn how to implement your own NDIS plan independently in the future. Your support coordinator will help you to understand budgeting, decision-making, goal setting, and self-advocacy, empowering you to take control of your life.
It’s important to regularly check that your NDIS plan is still right for you and your changing needs. Support coordinators will keep an eye on your progress, identify any gaps or challenges, and make necessary adjustments, to ensure you’re getting the maximum benefits from your plan.
Our Disability Plan Services support coordinators bring a broad range of expertise and experience, and all have a passion for helping you unlock the full potential of your NDIS funding and accessing the right services.
