At Disability Plan Services, we understand that everyone’s needs are different. This means the types of support that you may require will be different depending on what you need to achieve your goals.

When applying for funding through the NDIS or when managing your NDIS funding package, it is important to know and consider what types of support may be covered. While the NDIS offers funding for a range of different supports, the NDIS support catalogue also outlines some of the supports that the NDIS cannot provide.

At Disability Plan Services, our teams help with managing your NDIS funding package and have the experience you need to make the most of your plan.

Keep reading to learn the answers to some of the most common myths and questions we hear.

What is an NDIS Funding Package?

The types of supports that you are eligible for will determine the amount of funding you receive in your NDIS funding package. So, before we discuss what supports are available, it is helpful to know what exactly an NDIS funding package is.

An NDIS funding package is the official approved document that outlines who you are, how your disability impacts your life and what funds you are approved to access for supports and services. Once you have been deemed eligible for funding through the NDIS, you will have a planning meeting to set your goals and start your journey.

Your plan defines what supports you have funding to receive. These supports are designed to meet your individual goals so everyone will be different. During your planning meeting you have the choice of three main options for managing NDIS plan – self-managed, agency managed and managed by a registered, third-party Plan Manager.

If you are new to the NDIS or are unfamiliar with what services and supports are available to you in your community, working with a third-party Plan Manager means you can be sure that you’re receiving the best supports and advice that suits your individual needs and goals. Types of support funded through your NDIS plan

Based on your individual needs, you may receive funding for a range of different supports that will help you to achieve your goals. The types of support that you may be eligible for include these day-to-day activities:

  • Daily personal activities
  • Transport to community, social, and daily life activities
  • Workplace funding to help you find and keep a job
  • Therapeutic supports including behaviour support
  • Help with household tasks to maintain your home environment
  • Professional help in arranging aids or equipment assessment, set up and training
  • Home and vehicle modifications
  • Mobility equipment

The NDIS support catalogue details all the specific types of support that are available. You can also read more about what capacity building supports are available to you in our blog.

Types of support that are not funded through your NDIS plan

As stated in the NDIS support catalogue, the NDIS cannot offer funding for certain types of supports. The NDIS cannot fund a support that is:

  • The responsibility of another government system or community service
  • Not related to a person’s disability
  • Relates to day-to-day living costs that are not related to a participant’s support needs, or
  • Is likely to cause harm to the participant or pose a risk to others.

It is important to ensure that you are only spending your funding on the supports that are covered by the NDIS, otherwise you might find yourself in debt.
